MHS volleyball continues competitive season

Monticello Lady Trojan Volleyball team continues to focus as they serve on the court for their third season of volleyball at MHS.

Entering the very competitive sport that is becoming more popular each year, MHS volleyball is coming together as a team on the court.

Serving up success is a lot of determination, countless hours of practice, open gym after school and the strength to go the distance as a team on and off the court.

The MHS team traveled to UK over the summer and went undefeated in their division, winning the tournament. They also had the opportunity to learn from Eastern Kentucky in the third final game.

The team highlight of the season is winning a six team tournament at Somerset Christian High School. These Christian schools usually have good volleyball programs, just from having played it for so many years.

They also came very close to winning a twelve team tournament at Lynn Camp High School earlier in the season.

Vacancies from “03”

The newest team players, including three seventh graders are Kensey Jones, Brittany Troxell and Emily Tucker, have been demonstrating a lot of JV playing time, along with junior Monica Flynn in addition to junior Lori Jo Hasty, a late season newcomer.

Second year coach, Joey Silvers said, “We have had a season of ups and downs, plagued with injuries, sickness and other distractions, keeping us from ever getting on our feet and staying there. Our 10-9 record shows that. However, of these 9 losses, we were very competitive in over half, losing only by a few points in the third final game.”

Coach Joey said, “We still have a couple of games left, and have an excellent chance of winning if we play our A game. We must have all six ladies on the floor focused on volleyball. Four or five girls will not win for us, it takes all six. Last year’s team peaked before district tourney, but I don’t think we have peaked yet this year, or at least I sure hope not. Hopefully, that will happen during the district tourney, which will be at MHS this year.”

MHS Volleyball will continue through October, with Monticello School hosting the district tourney from October 11-16. Game times will be announced at a later date.
