Williams selected to fill 40th Judicial District vacancy

A Russell Springs attorney has been selected to fill the 40th Judicial District vacancy, according to an announcement made last week by Governor Ernie Fletcher.

Fletcher’s announcement of Robyn Williams’ appointment to the office of District Judge for the 40th Judicial District, Division 1, of Kentucky, which includes Russell, Clinton, and Wayne Counties, came last Thursday, October 7.

Williams, a resident of Russell Springs, currently serves as the Domestic Relations Commissioner and Master Commissioner for Russell County.

As Domestic Commission-er, Williams held hearings on all domestic matters in the Russell Circuit Court and made recommendations and reports to the Circuit Judge. As Master Commissioner, she was responsible for all judicial sales in Russell County.

Williams is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the Northern Kentucky University Chase College of Law.

Williams was one of three individuals whose names were submitted for the appointment by the Judicial Nominating Committee, which is chaired by Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice Joseph Lambert. In addition to Williams, the judicial nominating committee also submitted the names of Keith Upchurch and Jack Miller as candidates to replace retiring District Judge Jeff Choate.

The committee was required to submit three names to the governor for the appointment; however, of the three individuals, Williams was the only person to apply for the vacant judgeship, according to a press release from the governor’s office.
