Home heating assistance for low-income families
MITCHELL GREGORY
News Reporter

There are some changes this year for heads of households who need to sign up for the LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program).

Everyone, including food stamp participants, must bring proof of your income when you sign up for the program at the Senior Citizens Building.

Because of changes in Frankfort, a copy of your food stamp information cannot be used to verify your income.

Everyone will need to bring proof of your household’s income for the preceding month.

You will also need to bring your most recent heating bills or verification from your landlord that the heating expenses are included in your rent.

The third type of information that you must have is the social security number or permanent resident card number for everyone living in your household.

The dates to sign up for LIHEAP are from November 1 - December 10.

Applications will be taken by the last name of the head of the household.

If your last name begins with A, apply on November 1.

—B, November 3 or November 4

—C, November 8 or 9

—D or E, November 10

—F or G, November 15

—H, November 16 or 17

—I or J, November 18

—K or L, November 22

—M, November 23 or 29

—N, O, or P, November 30

—Q or R, December 1

—S, December 2 or 6

—T, December 7

—U, V, or W, December 8

—X, Y, or Z, December 9

You may sign up any listed day after your day. December 10 is open to anyone who has failed to sign up, but it is the last day.

The cost of home heating is a problem for many low-income Kentuckians. Don’t miss out on your opportunity for assistance, but remember to bring the three types of information with you to the Senior Citizens Building on Columbia Avenue.
