County to consider paying 1/3 of airport’s liability insurance

The Wayne County Airport needs more insurance coverage and the county will consider paying one-third of the additional premium, after the issue was discussed during a meeting on Thursday, October 14.

District Four Magistrate Wade Upchurch, who also serves on the Airport Board, noted that the facility sells fuel and also has a person who does service work at the airport, which means a need for additional insurance coverage. This would help cover any lawsuits that might arise against the local airport.

Upchurch said the liability premium would be $9,000 per year. The Airport Board has requested that the county help pay a third, while the board itself will pay a third. He noted that the individual providing service to the planes at the facility would also pay one-third of the cost.
