Election polls expected to be busy on Tuesday
Melodie Phelps
News Editor

If pre-election interest is any indication, the polls around Wayne

County should be busy next Tuesday. That¹s the prediction of County Court

Clerk Carol Jones, who expects to see a tremendous turnout to vote for

president, as well as for several local races on November 2.

³If the weather is pretty, I expect a heavy turnout,² said Jones. ³We

have seen a big interest in this election...I think mostly people are

interested in the presidential race, but I think the constitutional

amendment also plays a part in it.²

After all, this is the first election since the historical presidential

race of 2000, which went to the wire on election night then took several

weeks in court before George W. Bush was declared a winner.

Jones noted that her office has received a lot of questions from people

who wanted to make sure they can vote this year, and she feels a lot of that

interest is because of 2000, when voters saw just how important each vote

really is.

³Every vote counts,² said Jones. ³I think people saw how important that

vote was in 2000.²
