Record year for annual Christmas Parade

It was a record year for the Monticello-Wayne County Chamber of

Commerceıs Christmas Parade. The annual procession included more than 80

entries and a total of 26 floats.

Temperatures were cold, but there was no rain or snow and crowds

gathered along the parade route early to find a good place to watch.

³It all went well,² noted Penny Thompson, Administrative Assistant for

the Chamber of Commerce. ³We had a wonderful turnout.²

This yearıs theme was ³A Star Spangled Christmas² and there was a lot of

the red, white and blue among each of the entries. World War II veterans

served as Grand Marshals for the 2004 parade. Many of them led the parade in

a variety of different vehicles.

The veterans paused when the procession reached the Doughboy, as the

Wayne County High School Marching Band played the National Anthem. Wayne

Countyıs JROTC presented the colors during the tribute.

Monticello Banking Company won first place in the float competition.

They received $100. Second place went to Girl Scout Troop 554, which

received $75. Charlie Batteryıs Family Support Group won third place and a

$25 prize.
