The Monticello Trojans claimed another victory as they defeated Augusta

97-57 on Saturday night. The Trojans have played three home games so far

this season and have been victorious in all three.

Again the Trojans put in an outstanding effort, with all the Trojans

getting game minutes. Six Trojans also scored in double figures. The leading

scorer was Billy Inman with 20 points for the game.

Monticello came out scoring 25 points in the first quarter while Augusta

scored 15. The Trojans then came out with a strong second quarter and held

Augusta to 13 points, while they added another 33 points to the score board.

After the half Monticello again kept Augusta from scoring twenty points

in the quarter bringing the score to 78-43. The final quarter the Trojans

played strong again and tallied another 19 points for the quarter while

keeping Augusta to 14. The final score was 97-57, with Monticello on top.

Monticelloıs statistics were not as impressive as in games past. Field

goal percentage was at 48 percent, with three point shooting at only 21.4

percent. Free throws were also down from games past with the team only

shooting 40 percent.

Coach Abbott said, ³Our free throw percentage has to be higher as well

as our field goal percentage. Those are both things we have to work on in

practice.²

Monticello also had 48 rebounds, 22 assists, and 22 steals. However, the

Trojans had 32 personal fouls. This is common with the aggressive defense

the Trojans are playing.

³We play an exciting game and put in a good effort. This team is very

aggressive and gets a lot of steals, but we also get too many fouls. We have

to work on getting into position and playing defense more with our feet and

not our hands,² said Coach Abbott.

Zeb Davis and Phillip Inman led in rebounds with 8 apiece. Michael

Borden and Chris Lester led the team in assists with 7 each.

³I am glad we got the opportunity to play all our players again. I have

also been pleased with the three games we have played so far this season.

The players are really complimenting each other on and off the court. Each

player has given encouragement whether they are playing on the court or

sitting on the bench. Everyone realizes it takes a team effort; they arenıt

worried about individual stats but the big picture, winning,² Coach Abbott

commented.

The Trojans are looking forward to more basketball action Friday night

as they take on McCreary Central at 6 p.m. at McCreary Central.
