Lady Trojans make it 3-0 against Danville
Jessica Mullins
Sports Writer

The Lady Trojans played tough and made it 3-0 for the season against

Danville High School. It was a physical game and fast paced as both teams

ran full court presses and fast breaks.

This was the first game the Lady Trojans played without Erin Foster who

tore her ACL and MCL the weekend before. Without Foster Monticello had to

put in extra effort. Foster will be out the rest of the season.

³Without Erin we are out of rotation with our subs. More of the girls

have to step up and fill some of the rolls Erin contributed to the team. She

was very quick and also could knock down the three,² noted Coach Kelsch.

The game started out physical from both sides. Monticello and Danville

pushed the ball up the floor. The first quarter ended with the Lady Trojans

on top 18 to 14.

The second quarter also played out in Monticello¹s favor. The Lady

Trojans led Danville 39 to 25.

Coach Kelsch said, ³This is the best first half we have put together all

season, including our scrimmages.²

Coming back in the third quarter the Lady Trojans showed signs of

fatigue as, Danville got back within eight points. Monticello committed

three turnovers in a row which allowed for Danville¹s run. By the end of the

third quarter the Lady Trojans got refocused and began playing consistent

again. The third quarter ended with the Lady Trojans ahead nine points, the

score 56 to 47.

Monticello came out the fourth quarter not looking as consistent as they

have in the previous games. Typically the Lady Trojans play a good fourth

quarter, but were fatigued due to the lack of Foster.

The Lady Trojans were able to gain composure and defeat Danville 71 to

63. This is the Monticello Lady Trojan¹s third straight win this season.

When asked about how the team reacted to Fosters absence Coach KeIsch

said, ³Lacking Erin really took a toll on us. All the girls had to pull

together and play more minutes than they are used to. Brittany Carrander and

Alesha Gehring only sat out for one minute a piece during the game.²

One big plus for Monticello was the fact that Sierra Adams and Rachel

Bristow both had double-double games. Adams scored 19 points, while Bristow

was high scorer with 23.

³Rachel is playing more consistent and is getting better every game. She

did get into foul trouble and had to be taken out for awhile. This also gave

her some rest she needed,² commented Coach Kelsch.

While steals and assists were up for the Lady Trojans, shooting

percentages were down. Monticello only shot 60 percent from the free throw

line and 17.6 percent from 3-point land.

Coach Kelsch did state, ³We had a nice team effort. We also put together

a good first half for a big win against Danville.²

The Lady Trojans have a tough season still ahead of them this year. The

next game for the Lady Trojans was Friday night against Corbin. See game

details in a related story in this edition.
