Junior High Mat Cards are the Region One runner-up The Junior High Wrestling Team traveled to Larue County High School on Saturday, January 29 to compete in the Region One Wrestling championship. Wayne County finished second to Larue County Middle School. This marks the second year the Junior High Mat Cardinals have been runner up. Wayne County is a very young team this year with only two eighth graders in the lineup sixth and seventh graders. The Regional Lineup consisted of the following: 75 lb., Cody Edwards 82 lb., Kevin Dishman 82 lb., Cody Upchurch 89 lb., Austin Raynes 96 lb., Joseph Hicks 103 lb., Shawn Dishman 110 lb., Billy Floyd 117 lb., Eddie Sweet 124 lb., Joseph Foster 131 lb., Cody Lyons 140 lb., Kyle Bell 150 lb., Matthew East 165 lb., Cody Mink 165 lb., Cameron Hicks 185 lb., Justin Hicks 230 lb., Nathan Elam 230 lb., Tyler Pace The following were top four teams: 1. Larue County 255 pts. 2. Wayne County 122 pts. 3. South Henderson 117.5 pts. 4. Christian County 89 pts. The following were placers for the Junior High Mat Cardinals: 96 lb., Joseph Hicks, 5th place 110 lb., Billy Floyd, fourth place 131 lb., Cody Lyons, fourth place 150 lb., Matthew East, fifth place 165 lb., Cody Mink, fifth place 185 lb., Justin Hicks, second place 230 lb., Nathan Elam, second place 230 lb., Tyler Pace, fifth place The tournament consisted of over 200 wrestlers from 16 schools. The top four at each weight class will advance to the Junior High State Tournament. The State Tournament will be held February 12 at Central Hardin High School. The Junior High Team is coached by Kevin Sullivan and assisted by Eugene Floyd and Chris Floyd. The team will be honored on February 11 at Wayne County.
