Shelton charged with promoting contraband

A local man has been arrested for promoting contraband first degree, according to Wayne County Jailer Ray Upchurch. David M. Shelton, 40, of Monticello, was charged on Tuesday, February 15, after he returned from a court appearance.

Deputy jailers searched Shelton and discovered a small quantity of

marijuana and six Percocet pills on him. Kentucky State Police Trooper

Parrish Baker was then called to the Wayne County Detention Center to

investigate.

Upchurch noted that anyone who is brought into the Detention Center or any inmate out on any transport, such as a court appearance, a doctorıs visit or work release, will be searched. Promoting contraband first degree is a Class D felony which carries an imprisonment term of one to five years and anyone caught doing so will be prosecuted, according to Upchurch.

Upchurch stated that this will not be tolerated at the Wayne County Detention Center.
