This time around, the Trojans did not fare as well. The Bulldogs

defeated Monticello 50-40.

Clinton County came to Monticello with a record comparable to the

Trojans. Both teams had 15 wins going into the game.

The win extended Clinton Countyıs record to 16 wins and 11 losses and

the loss dropped Monticelloıs record to 15 wins and 9 losses.

Monticello and Clinton County battled back and forth during the first

quarter. Both teams led during the first eight minutes and at the end of one

Clinton was able to slowly pull away during the second quarter. The

Bulldogs put 17 points on the board to Monticelloıs 10 during the period.

By halftime, Clinton had stretched their lead to 8. The Bulldogs also

outscored the Trojans during the third quarter.

After three quarters, Monticello trailed Clinton County by 13.

The Trojans looked better during the fourth quarter and were able to cut

into the Bulldogsı lead but were never able to tie the game during the final

eight minutes.

When the final horn sounded, Monticello trailed Clinton County by 10.

Monticello was led in scoring by Zeb Davis. He put up 11 points and

Phillip Inman added 10.

The Trojans struggled from the line Tuesday night. They shot 8 free

throws for the game but only made 2 of them (25 percent).

Clinton County was able to get to the charity stripe much more often

than the Trojans. The Bulldogs shot 24 free throws during the contest but

made only 13 of them (54 percent).

Both teams scored the majority of their points from inside. Monticello

connected for only 2 3-point baskets and the Bulldogs made 3 of their

attempts from behind the 3-point line.

Five players scored for the Trojans and seven players put points on the

board for the Bulldogs.

³We had a pretty good effort Tuesday night,² said Coach Gary Abbott.

³All our guys played really hard and looked to be improving. You never like

to lose but we can build on the effort and continue getting better with

effort like we had Tuesday night.²

Tuesday night was Senior Night for the Trojans. All of the schoolıs

seniors that play basketball, cheer, or play in the band were honored.

The boyıs basketball team honored senior Frank Talley and cameraman Ben

Harris.

Monticelloıs final regular season game was against Somerset on Friday

night. They played their first round district tournament game against

Russell County on the following Monday, February 28.

Monticello hosts the 47th District Tournament this year. The

championship game will be held Friday night, March 4.
