Two local guard members injured
Two local guard members have been injured during different incidents in
Iraq, according to family members of the two soldiers.
Bobby Troxell and Bryant Slagle are both recovering from injuries
sustained while on duty near Baghdad. Both are members of Bravo Battery of
the 1st Battalion 623rd Field Artillery. (Names of injured soldiers are not
officially released by the National Guard.)
Bonnie Troxell said she was notified that her son Bobby sustained a hand
injury and several lacerations, when a roadside bomb exploded and hit his
truck during a convoy mission.
Troxell said she has talked with her son several times since he was
injured. He is doing well and is recovering after being hit with a piece of
metal in his hand. His hand is broken, she said, and he also suffered some
facial lacerations.
The mother said she was thankful that it wasnšt more serious. She also
noted that her thoughts are with the families of two other Kentucky National
Guard members who were recently killed in Iraq.
Bryant Slaglešs father, Jackie, said his son was injured when his humvee
was involved in an explosion. He said Bryant suffered some burns, a
concussion and took shrapnel. He is receiving medical treatment in Baghdad.
Jackie Slagle said he had spoken to his son several times since they
were notified of the accident. He said Bryant is recovering well.
The Family Support Group for the local guard unit will hold a prayer
service on Saturday, April 9 at 7 p.m. in the Pickrell Auditorium at Wayne
County High School.
Everyone is invited to attend and pray for the local troops who have
been deployed to Iraq.
