Two companies make presentations to local Telecommunications Board

Two different companies made presentations to the Telecommunications

Board, during the groupıs regular meeting on Wednesday, April 20. Both

presentations were in regard to the boardıs decision to proceed with a fiber

to the home upgrade for the cable system.

Victor Frisch, with Bechtel Communications, made a slide presentation to

the board regarding fiber and its capabilities.

³The opportunities here are endless,² said Frisch, as he talked about

fiber.

He noted that in communities where fiber has been used, customers can

receive phone service, cable television and high speed internet service for

about $90 per month.

Fiber is becoming more economically feasible, according to Frisch. He

said its price is comparable to copper cable. Fiber has no limit on its

lifespan, added Frisch.

Following Frischıs presentation, the board met in executive session for

approximately half an hour. They returned to open session and then heard a

presentation from Tammy Richardson and Terry Johnson, with P & T Services.

P & T Services can put together an entire fiber upgrade project, from

planning to completion. Richardson noted that they had done projects in many

different locations.

The board met again in executive session for a short period of time.

The only action taken during the meeting was in regard to the property

the board is seeking to acquire near the tower site. Currently the tower is

anchored on leased property and the board had made an offer to buy the land

for $15,000.

The board made a second proposal to send to the property owner. This

proposal was for $20,000. The board agreed this would be a final offer and

would be good for a period of 90 days.
