Lady Cardinal softball team is a young squad this year

This yearıs Lady Cardinal Softball Team is a young squad, with no

seniors on the roster. The team does return four starters from the district

championship squad a year ago. They are Elizabeth Cowan, Atisha Gehring,

Emily Keeton and Sasha Chaplin.

³With these four, we have three juniors, Mary Reimer, Chasity Jones,

Kristina Karahalios and another sophomore, Kellyn Munsey, who are sharing

time in the outfield, all of which are getting their first varsity playing

time,² said Coach Myson Rice as he talked about the 2005 Lady Cardinals.

Rounding out the varsity starters in another sophomore, Tabitha

Williams, and two eighth graders, Haley Keith and Brittany Dishman.

³This puts not only our starters, but the entire twenty players on the

roster, average grade level somewhere between their freshman and sophomore

year,² said Rice.

The team had somewhat of a slow start, posting a 2-6 record through the

first eight games of the regular season.

Rice noted that the Lady Cardinals were competitive in all those games,

with the exception of the contest with Russell County. The Lady Lakers may

well be the team to beat in the 12th Region this year, according to Rice.

³I feel that youthful inexperience was the major contributor in our

losses,² said Rice.

³However, on the positive side, I see us getting better with each game,²

Rice said. ³The players are becoming more comfortable in their positions,

many of which are new. Our work ethic is strong and our attitude is good and

I believe this will make us a good solid team before the year is over.²
