The woman charged with murder in connection with a fatal two car
collision earlier this month appeared in Wayne District Court on Monday, May
16.
Emma Bertram, 45, of Monticello, appeared before District Judge Robyn
Williams last week.
Bertram is charged with murder and first degree assault in connection
with a May 10 collision that left Eric Adkins, 23, dead and injured a
passenger in his vehicle.
Bertram was originally charged with second degree manslaughter, when she
was arrested shortly after the collision. But charges were upgraded the
following day when she appeared for arraignment in Wayne District Court.
No bond was set at the time. Last week, Williams set the bond at
$100,000 cash or $200,000 property.
Bertram was released on a $200,000 property bond on Wednesday, May 18,
according to Wayne Circuit Clerk Richard Morrow.
The case has been waived to the grand jury, which will consider if an
indictment should be returned against Bertram.
Sheriff¹s deputies who investigated the collision indicated that alcohol
is a suspected factor.
