Proposed lake annexation will not come into Wayne County

Burnsideıs proposed lake annexation will not come into Wayne County, but

members of the fiscal court have opted to write a letter to the Corps of

Engineers to object to the move.

In a special meeting held Thursday morning, magistrates again discussed

Burnsideıs proposed annexation effort to take in Leeıs Ford Marina.

The annexation would take in a portion of Lake Cumberland in order to

include the marina, and originally residents in the Colson Cove area of

Wayne County feared that it would include lakeshore near their homes.

But County Attorney Lee Tobbe said that he has learned that the

ordinance actually includes only the north side of the river, as it was

plated in the 1940ıs.

The ordinance refers to only sections of the lake that are in Pulaski

County.

³Theyıre not coming into Wayne County,² Tobbe told magistrates during

Thursdayıs meeting.

Tobbe said that the court could not take any legal action to oppose the

annexation. The only step would be to write a letter to the Corps of

Engineers objecting to Burnsideıs annexation efforts.

Tobbe said that officials with the Corps of Engineers have indicated

that they would not object to the annexation if there was no opposition.

³I think we ought to object to it,² said County Judge-Executive Bruce

Ramsey.

District One Magistrate Jerry Sloan made a motion for Tobbe to write a

letter objecting to the annexation. The motion passed. Sloan suggested that

the letter note that several residents in Wayne County have objected to the

annexation.

In other action Thursday, the court took care of several financial

matters. They approved the second reading of an ordinance amending the

current fiscal yearıs budget to include $121,467 in unbudgeted receipts in

the road fund and the homeland security fund.

The court also:

* Approved the transfer of $700 from the general fund to the LGEA fund.

* Approved several other transfers.

* Paid the Wayne County Rescue Squad $3,950, which was previously

approved by the court.

*Approved a claim from the architectural firm for the Justice Center.
