The woman accused with murder in connection with a fatal collision that
occurred in Wayne County in May appeared in Wayne Circuit Court on Tuesday,
July 5.
Emma Bertram, who was recently indicted on charges of murder, first
degree assault and operating a motor vehicle under the influence, entered a
plea of not guilty during the appearance before Circuit Judge Vernon
Miniard, Jr. Bertram appeared with her attorney Tom Carroll.
A hearing in the case has been set for August 16 in Wayne Circuit Court.
The charges stem from a two-vehicle collision that occurred on May 10 on
Highway 1275 near Fall Creek. Eric Adkins, 23, died from injuries sustained
in the crash.
Police said that Bertram was driving a Chevrolet truck and collided with
a 2002 Lincoln which was driven by Adkins.
A passenger in Adkins¹ vehicle, Rodney Blevins, was injured in the
crash.
Police said they suspected the collision was alcohol related and a blood
sample was collected from Bertram, after the Wayne County Sheriff¹s
Department obtained a search warrant.
Her husband, Lonnie Bertram, who was indicted for tampering with
physical evidence, also appeared in court on July 5.
He entered a plea of not guilty and a hearing has been set for August
16.
