Local players see action with winning state tournament baseball team

Two Wayne County baseball players participated in the Central States

Division of the Big League Baseball Tournament held the weekend of July 23,

2005 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Central States Division Tournament consists of State Champions from

Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio. Kentucky was represented by

the Bullets State Champion Team based in Pulaski County.

Big League Baseball allows youth aged 17-19 to participate on a team.

The Bullets consist of high school and college players from Wayne,

Pulaski, Whitley and Laurel counties.

Bullets first baseman Barry Cooper is a senior at Wayne County High

School and outfielder Robert Corder is a junior.

In first round action, the Kentucky Bullets defeated Indiana in a strong

defensive game.

The score had been tied for four consecutive innings before the Bullets

pulled away with two runs scored in the sixth inning.

In game three of the tournament, the Kentucky Bullets were paired

against a hard hitting Michigan team. With continued strong defensive action

by the Bullets, the Michigan team was defeated by the Bullets in second

round play.

During the second day of tournament play, the Kentucky Bullets squared

off with a very experienced team from Indiana and were eliminated from the

tournament.
