Melodie Phelps

A lot of favorite events and a few new ones will be included in the

Monticello-Wayne County Chamber of Commerceıs 27th Annual Old Fashion Days

Festival, which will be held Saturday and Sunday at Memorial Park.

Popular train rides and pony rides are back this year, as well as

several favorite contests like Fear Factor. And this year, the festival will

include demonstrators from the old-fashioned way of life.

Penny Thompson, with the Monticello-Wayne County Chamber of Commerce,

said that 54 vendors have signed up so far to participate in this yearıs

festival, and she expects that number to grow throughout the week.

Thompson also noted that this yearıs schedule is filled with

entertainment and activities, so there is hardly a minute when something

isnıt going on at the park. Things get underway Saturday at 10 a.m. when the

variety of craft and food booths throughout the park open. The first contest

will begin at 10:05 a.m., according to Thompson.

Activities and entertainment will continue until 7 p.m. Saturday. Some

events to remember include the Best Dressed Contest, which is set for noon

on Saturday. Fear Factor, which was very popular last year, will begin at

3:15 p.m.

Entertainment includes music by Ben West at 2:15 p.m. and the Clyde and

Marie Denney Band at 4:15 p.m. There are lots of others scheduled to perform

throughout the day.

On Sunday, the festival begins at noon and will continue until 6 p.m.

Pattie Tate will perform at 12:45 p.m. and West will take the stage at 2:15.

Sunday afternoon contests include Best Dressed and the corn on the cob

eating contest. Living Stone is scheduled to perform at 4:30 p.m. and Rebel

Son will perform at 5 p.m.

Sunday afternoon activities also include the car show. There is no

admission charge for the Old Fashion Days Festival. Anyone who would like

more information may call (606) 348-3064 or 1-866-348-3064.
