Rhodes Roberts wins the Lake Cumberland 5-Miler The Lake Cumberland 5-mile run and 2-mile walk was held Saturday, September 3, in Monticello, Ky. Runners ranged in age from 14 to 74 and walkers from 12 to 63. Rhodes Roberts of Monticello won the race with a time of 30:49. Male Masterıs winner (40 and over) was Doyle Swanner from Somerset. David Caffee, Somerset, won the Male Grand Masterıs division (50 and over). Somersetıs Pati Jones won the womenıs division in 37:07. Female Masterıs winner (40 and over) was Sharon Rudden of Somerset. The female Grand Masterıs division (50 and over) was won by Jean Campbell of Somerset. Winner of the houseboat weekend door prize, given by Conley Bottom Resort, was Sheridan Wright of Monticello, Ky. This prize is a tremendous draw to the event. Libbey Crowe, race director, makes the Lake Cumberland run/walk better each year. There are many people, unnamed, who give their time as volunteers and help make the 5-miler one of the outstanding events in Central Kentucky. Sponsors for the event were: Sam Brown and the folks at Monticello Physical Therapy, Robert Parmelee and the Monticello Medical Associates, Charlie Denney and Conley Bottom Resort, and First Southern National Bank. The Monticello Police Department, the Wayne County EMS, Chief Steve Ferrell and staff of the Fire Department provided safety for the runners. The support of all the sponsors and volunteers who help is appreciated. Proceeds from the race/walk will be donated to the local chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athlet-es/Anybodies. Representatives from this group served as timers and provided water at the water station. All participants, runners and walkers enjoyed the challenging course!
