Family Support group will host chili supper
Melodie Phelps
News Editor

Members of the Family Support Group for Battery C are beginning to think

about a homecoming celebration for the unit, and the local community can

help make it even more memorable.

Proceeds from a chili supper, set for Saturday night, will go toward the

fund raising effort that is underway.

"We want to have as big a celebration as we can have," said Shellie

Bertram with the Family Support Group.

The local unit is expected to be home sometime in late January, after

spending a year in Iraq. Plans are still in the works for a homecoming

celebration.

Saturday night, the local community will have a chance to contribute to

that by attending a chili supper at the Armory.

There will be plenty of food, great entertainment, as well as an

auction.

Bertram said that different businesses around town have donated items

for the event, and the response has been good.

The Bell Tones will kick things off with a performance at 5 p.m.

Also slated to perform Saturday night are Klassyc Times, Western Rail

(Ben West, Clint Hayes, Carl Brown, and Travis Bertram), and Hands on

Ministry from Clinton County. There will be lots of great chili and other

food to enjoy.

Between performances some of the items that have been donated will be

auctioned off.

Some of the larger items that will auction Saturday night include four

U.K. basketball tickets, a pontoon rental, a helmet, Harley Davidson

collectibles, a Regina Burris original painting of the Armory, and Fred

Thrasher prints.

"Welcome Home" t-shirts are currently available at a cost of $12 and

they can be purchased on Saturday night.

Anyone who would like to contribute monetarily to the welcome home

celebration can do so at any Monticello Banking Company location, where an

account has been set up for the Family Support Group.

Anyone who would like to help with the chili supper or who needs more

information can contact Bertram at (606) 348-5548 or Mike Bowman at (606)

348-4691.
