Counterfeit bills are found in Monticello

At least four counterfeit $100 bill have surfaced in Monticello this

week and the police department is urging everyone to be extremely observant

when accepting money.

One of the bills was passed at a local gas station and three others

turned up in the bank deposit for another local business.

Monticello Police Chief Melvin Rose noted that local businesses should

not only be observant of $100 bills but to also check bills of other

denominations as well.

He advised that if a bill looks suspicious that it be marked to see if

it is authentic.

Detective Sheridan Wright said that anyone who gets a suspicious bill

should be observant of the person who gave it to them.

Providing a physical description of an individual, or the type of

vehicle and license number can help local officials make an arrest.

Anyone who has a question about counterfeit bills should contact the

Monticello Police Department at (606) 348-9313.
