A Wayne County man is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in connection

with the shooting deaths of his mother and his brother.

Robert Dennis, 43, has been charged with two counts of murder, following

the shooting on Friday afternoon at his family's residence on Hillard

Avenue.

Dead are Gary L. Dennis, 48, and Dorothy Dennis, 70. Gary Dennis was

pronounced dead at approximately 4:30 p.m. by Wayne County Coroner Marvin S.

Hicks at the Emergency Room of the Wayne County Hospital.

Deputy Coroner Forrest Hicks said that Gary Dennis suffered multiple

gunshot wounds to the head and left arm. An autopsy was conducted on the

victim on Saturday in Frankfort, according to Hicks.

Dorothy Dennis was taken from the scene of the shooting to the Wayne

County Hospital, where she was flown by Air Evac to the University of

Kentucky Medical Center. She later died at U.K. and her death is under

investigation by the Fayette County Coroner's Office.

Officials learned of the shooting at 2:51 p.m. Friday, when Robert

Dennis walked into the Monticello Police Department and turned himself in.

According to a citation filed against Dennis by the Wayne County Sheriff's

Department, Dennis told dispatchers that he had shot his family.

The Sheriff's Department obtained permission to search Dennis' vehicle

and according to the citation recovered a .22 rifle and a .22 pistol, along

with numerous live .22 rounds.

Dennis was originally charged with one count of murder and one count of

first degree assault. The assault charge was upgraded to murder after his

mother died. Dennis is also charged with possession of a firearm by a

convicted felon and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

He is lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center and is scheduled for

arraignment on Wednesday before District Judge Mike Lawson. No bond has been

set for Dennis.

Services for Dorothy Dennis and Gary Dennis were held Wednesday,

November 23. Both victims were buried in the Bud Gregory Cemetery.
