Wayne County team wins SCC PTSO first annual 3-on-3 tourney

Somerset Community College's Physical Therapy Student Organization

hosted its first annual SCC PTSO 3-On-3 Double Elimination Basketball

Classic, in conjunction with the Blakely Family YMCA, on Saturday, November

12.

SCC students and faculty, as well as members of the community, competed

in the event. Profits from the tourney will he donated to physical therapy

research.

The winning team, Terry Brown's Shooting Stars, was composed of athletes

from Wayne County and included team captain Terry Brown, Kyle Troxell, David

Phillips, and brothers Seth and Elijah Frost. The team finished the

tournament undefeated, but only after surviving an overtime game in the

semifinal round.

The second place team, sponsored by Bodean's Tattoos, consisted of

Captain Junior Molden, Barry Shelton, Scott Cook, and Hubert Coots.

The third place winner was the Busdrivers. Team members are Captain Jake

Wilson, David Vance, Matt Anderson, and Pat Denney.

The winning teams received cash prizes and t-shirts.

"I think it's important not just from the standpoint of fundraising, but

also from the perspective of contributing to

the campus atmosphere," stated Steve Hammons, a member of the Physical

Therapist Assistant Program faculty and co-sponsor of the student

organization. "Athletic events can add so much to the college experience."

"We really had a good turnout and I feel that this is an event that will

really grow in the future," stated Ron Meade, PTA Program Director. "We

anticipate that this will become one of the bigger events sponsored by our

student organization as we continue to develop it."

The SCC PTSO will be sponsoring additional fundraisers as they compete

in the Pittsburgh-Marquette Challenge, a national competition pitting

physical therapist and physical therapist assistant programs against each

other in an attempt to raise the most money for the cause.
