Plans underway for homecoming parade

Members of C Battery are expected to be back in Monticello sometime this
weekend. Though specific dates and times have not been announced, the
community will have a chance to give them a hero's welcome on Sunday,
February 5, when a Homecoming Parade will be held in honor of the soldiers.
The Monticello-Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is currently planning
for the parade, which will begin at 2 p.m. Penny Thompson, with the Chamber
of Commerce, noted that everyone is invited to participate, and she has
already had some float entries for the event.
There is no registration fee for the parade, though anyone who would
like to participate should call by Friday, February 3 to enter. Thompson
noted that because of time restraints there will be no walkers, no marchers
and no horses in the parade.
The parade will begin on Main Street at Hardwood Drive and will continue
to the Wayne County High School gym, where a community service is planned at
3:30 p.m. to honor the troops.
Thompson said that lineup for the parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. and
all entries should enter Hardwood Drive from the area of the Monticello Post
Office. Parade entries will be lined up in the order they arrive, so
Thompson suggested that any groups who enter and want to be together should
meet somewhere first and then arrive at the parade lineup at the same time.
Anyone who would like more information about entering the parade should
contact Thompson at (606) 348-3064.
Thompson also noted that the Chamber Office has a supply of the yard
signs welcoming back the troops, as well as the welcome home t-shirts
available. Signs can be purchased for $5 each. T-shirts cost $10 each. All
proceeds will go to the Family Support Group.
