Gibson files for Mayor

A local man became the first candidate to file for Mayor of Monticello.

Joe Gibson filed his candidacy papers with the Wayne County Court Clerk on

Friday.

Gibson is a retired teacher from the Wayne County School System and he

is the son of long-time Monticello Fire Chief Brook Gibson, who also served

on the City Council.

He is married to Karen Hart Gibson and they have two daughters and Kimberly.

Gibson is a 1970 graduate of Monticello High School and a 1975 graduate

of Eastern Kentucky University. He taught at Wayne County High School for 25

years before recently retiring.

Gibson served as a volunteer firefighter for 22 years. He also ran for

City Council several years ago.

The race for mayor will not appear on the primary ballot, but will be on

the ballot this fall.

Candidates for city races, as well as school board races, have until

August 8 at 4 p.m. to file for those offices.
