Clinton County tops Monticello Trojans 87-45

The Monticello Trojans traveled to Clinton County on Tuesday, February

21. The two teams had hooked up in a thriller earlier in the season at

Monticello, and the Bulldogs had come out with the win.

Last week, the Trojans were hoping to pay the Bulldogs back for the

earlier loss. But Monticello struggled offensively and never really got into

the game, as Clinton County handed them an 87-45 loss.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early advantage, scoring 19 points in the

opening quarter, while the Trojans only put 9 points on the board.

Senior Phillip Inman scored all 4 of his points in the opening quarter,

as he struggled offensively throughout the rest of the game.

The Trojans also got a 3-pointer from Justin Branscum and a basket by

Derrick Peyton in the first quarter.

Things didn't get much better in the second quarter, as the Trojans

scored only 12 points.

Trojan guard Tyler Bell scored all 7 of his points in the second

quarter. The Trojans also got a 3-pointer from Branscum and a bucket from

Danny Hicks.

Clinton County scored 31 points in the quarter and led 50-21 at the

half.

The Trojan offense continued to struggle in the third quarter.

Monticello scored only 10 points, including 4 by Branscum. Clinton

County led 72-31 going into the final eight minutes.

Monticello got a lot of younger players into the contest in the fourth

quarter. Eighth graders Aaron Dishman and Axil Atkinson saw action in the

fourth quarter for the Trojans.

Branscum was the only Trojan in double figures, finishing with 14

points. Bell added 7 in the contest.

With the loss, Monticello dropped to 8-16 on the season. Next up for the

Trojans was a Friday night game at home against Somerset.
