The Wayne County Lady Cardinals just wrapped up a 21-9 season that
produced the program's 10th straight district championship and head coach
Tim Pyles was honored for his effort.
Last week the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches named Pyles the
12th Region Coach of the Year.
Pyles just wrapped up his fifth season at the helm and the numbers are
very impressive. The coach has a 108-30 all-time record and an eye-popping
.783 winning percentage, but this marks his first ever KABC award.
"I'm very thankful to accept the honor, but all the credit deserves to
go elsewhere. This says so much about our players, assistant coaches and our
fans. I really think something like this is the efforts of our entire
program, so I'll accept on behalf of our program," said Pyles.
This honor is something else to add to an already impressive resume.
Pyles owns two 12th Region titles, four 47th District crowns, one 48th
District championship and a 31-3 district mark, during his tenure.
"We've had a lot of good players and some very good teams, so I'm
thankful to just be a part of it. We have a tremendous administration and
the support they provide along with our fans is second to none," said Pyles.
Pyles will formally accept the award at the Sweet 16 on March 24 at E.A.
Diddle Arena in Bowling Green. All coaches will be honored at halftime of
the second game of the afternoon session.
To be named Coach of the Year after such an up and down season may say a
lot about the past few seasons.
"I think that could certainly be true, but after all of the things that
this team has battled through throughout the season, maybe they respect how
our kids stayed the course. We came back in the district on the #1 seed's
floor, so I do think we did some very good things," said Pyles.
Congratulations to Coach Tim Pyles and staff on the award.
