Monticello City Council approved the budget ordinance for the 2006-2007

fiscal year, during a meeting held Monday evening.

The total general fund budget for next year is $1,490,563. The total

enterprise fund budget, which includes the water, sewer, and garbage

departments, is $3,230,084.

The capital projects budget for the city for the next fiscal year totals

$5,113,200. This includes several larger projects, like water and sewer

expansions, as well as state grant monies for a downtown revitalization

project.

Also during Monday's meeting, the council approved the second reading of

a budget amendment ordinance regarding the current fiscal year. The only

changes made were in the general fund budget. Actual revenues were adjusted

from $1,443,062 to $1,568,598.

The amendment noted increased revenues in property taxes,

intergovernmental revenue and grants, and fines and forfeitures.

The council also received a check from the Monticello Electric Plant

Board. Nancy Allen presented the $7,000 check during the council meeting,

noting that it was for help with maintaining right-of-ways.

In other action, the council approved a resolution that would deed

school property back to the Monticello School District. Monticello Mayor

Thurston Frye explained that under former laws school property was conveyed

to the city which issued revenue bonds for construction. That property was

then leased back to the school board.

Frye stated Monday that the laws have changed and he recommended the

council approve the resolution to reconvey the property to the district.

As Frye addressed the council Monday, he formally announced that he will

not seek re-election this fall. Frye cited several reasons for his decision,

including a hearing loss.

In other action during the meeting, the council:

* Heard the first reading of a traffic control ordinance which will

place a stop sign at the intersection of Barnes Drive and Rolling Hills

Boulevard.

* Approved Frye's re-appointment of Dr. Lynn Buckley to the Monticello

Electric Plant Board.

* Approved Greattinger and Crowley as the auditor for fiscal year 2006.
