Worley is indicted for wanton murder

Manslaughter charges against the woman accused in the drowning death of

her eight-year-old son have been upgraded.

A Wayne County Grand Jury indicted Wynema Worley on a charge of wanton

murder. The indictment was returned on Wednesday, October 18.

The indictment also charged Worley with criminal attempt to commit

murder. The charges stem from an August 19 incident, in which the car Worley

was driving went into the water in the Cumberland Point area of Wayne

County.

Worley, 27, of Bronston, and her six-year-old daughter, Misty Rambo,

escaped from the submerged vehicle, but her son, Dylan Rambo, 8, died,

despite attempts by fishermen in the area to save the boy.

During a preliminary hearing held in Wayne District Court in September,

police said that Worley had alcohol, marijuana and Elevil, a drug prescribed

for depression, in her system at the time of the accident.

Worley's blood alcohol level was .032, according to testimony by

Kentucky State Police Detective Doug Boyd.

In a statement to officials, Worley said that she had argued with her

husband and then put the children in her car and drove to her mother's

house.

During testimony, Boyd said that Cumberland Point was about five miles

past Worley's mother's home. The incident occurred just after midnight on

August 19.

Worley's attorney Teresa Whitaker stated during an interview on Friday

that she is unaware of any new evidence in this case that would lead to the

upgraded charge on the indictment.

A Lexington television station reported last week that another witness

testified before the local grand jury, alleging that Worley intentionally

drove her car into the lake.

Worley remains lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center. Bond was

lowered during a September hearing to $30,000 cash or two times property.

At press time, Worley had not been served yet with the indictment, so

formal arraignment has not been set.
