Green signs letter of intent with Southeastern Junior College
Shannon

Wayne County graduate Tyrone Green, a 2004 Kentucky All-Star, recently signed with Southeastern Junior College of Harrisburg, Illinois. The ceremony was held at the Wayne County High School Cardinal Gym. Green joins classmate Jerrod Gibbons, a recent Union College signee, as the second member of the 2004 senior class to sign a National Letter of Intent.

“This will give Tyrone the opportunity to play at a major college in two years. I’m really proud of Tyrone’s determination to go five plus hours away from home for the opportunity to play big-time basketball,” said Cards head coach Rodney Woods.

Southeastern is one of the powers of JUCO and has amassed a 67-6 record the last two seasons, highlighted by a National Championship game appearance in 2003. Head coach Todd Franklin just completed his eighth season at the helm and the Central City, Kentucky native is excited about the addition of Tyrone Green.

“Tyrone fits in very well in our program. He’s very strong and basketball-wise and has very good court vision. I think with his natural attributes and a lot of reps he can be a point guard. After some time to adjust and hard work, I really think in two years he can play at the high level of Division One,” said Southeastern head coach Todd Franklin.

Green, the school’s 2nd leading rebounder (1,062) and 3rd leading scorer in school history (1,957) averaged over 17 points and 11 rebounds last season. The stalwart was a 2nd team All-State selection by three different publications in 2004 and earned All-District four times and All-Region three times.

“Tyrone Green is the epitome of Wayne County basketball. He is dedicated and has been a great leader and done extremely well in the classroom. Tyrone will do well in college,” said Woods.

Green finished his prep career with 400 assists and 268 steals, while playing on two 12th Region championship squads and four 47th District Tournament winners.

Tyrone will play in this Saturday’s Kentucky-Indiana All-Star Basketball Classic at the Owensboro Sports Center, in Owensboro, Kentucky. For ticket information call 270-687-2787, or on the net check www.ticketmaster.com.

Green already claimed the Slam-Dunk title at the Gatorade Mountain classic in Hazard, last month. His new head coach is excited about watching his future player in action.

“I’m getting back in town a couple of days early to go watch him play. We’ve always had a lot of luck with Kentucky kids, so I’m excited about his signing with Southeastern,” said Franklin.
