Prosecutor selected for UNITE and HIDTA cases

Greg Ousley has been selected as special prosecutor for UNITE and HIDTA cases in Pulaski, Rockcastle, and Wayne counties, according to an announcement made last week. Ousley is an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney in Pulaski County.

U.S. Representative Harold Rogers and U.S. Attorney Gregory F. Van Tatenhove made the announcement on Tuesday, June 8. They also announced the hiring of Michael Pratt, who will serve in the same capacity for Laurel, Knox, Whitley and McCreary counties.

“I believe these prosecutors will have a tremendous impact on the drug problem that has devastated our region,” said Rogers. “With the combined efforts of UNITE and HIDTA detectives, the number of arrests for drug trafficking is on the rise. It is the utmost importance that we see these cases all the way through the justice system.”

UNITE Cumberland Task Force has been operational since March 15. Since that time, drugs with a street value of over $500,000 have been confiscated. Operation Unite, which stands for Unlawful Narcotics Investigations, Treatment, and Education, serves 29 counties in southern and eastern Kentucky.
