Board looks at second site for middle school

A portion of the site originally selected for construction of a new middle school is unsuitable for building, and architects and school officials are now considering an alternative location for the school. Superinten-dent John Dalton updated board members on the construction project during a meeting Mon-day at Pickrell Auditorium.

Dalton said that soil borings at the original site, located on the property behind the Family Resource Center, indicated that a portion of the property was unsuitable for building. Officials began to look at possible changes that could be made to plans and solutions that would provide a stable foundation for the building.

“It was a given that it would settle and the building would crack,” according to Dalton.

The next possible site that is being considered is the area between the Area Technology Center and Turner Intermediate. Dalton said he planned to meet with principals at these buildings this week to discuss any potential problems with this location.

“This option will still allow us to improve traffic flow on the campus,” Dalton pointed out.

Board member Dr. David Gover asked if this would mean a redesign of the building. Wayne Roberts, who had met with construction officials Monday, said that the plans would be changed from a split level building.
