Fiscal Court to purchase another ambulance
Melodie Phelps
News Editor

The county will purchase another ambulance for Wayne County EMS, bringing the total fleet to five. Wayne County Fiscal Court agreed to purchase another ambulance during a special meeting held Friday, June 25.

Wayne County EMS Director Bubby Corder told the court that a fifth ambulance is necessary to bring the service into compliance. He noted that the number of ambulances needed by a service is determined by the population that is served and the number of runs.

Corder told court members that EMS has received an $11,000 grant which can be used for down payment on the vehicle. The ambulance will cost approximately $66,000.

Corder said the grant money had originally been set aside for the purchase of new heart monitors, but that the need for the ambulance is more immediate. Magistrates authorized County Judge-Executive Bruce Ramsey to sign documents for the lease/purchase of the new ambulance.
