Four arrested after robbery at Wal-Mart

Four people were arrested Friday, following a strong arm robbery at Wal-Mart. The incident was originally reported at 2:35 p.m. as shoplifting, but when officers arrived on the scene they learned that the perpetrators had used force during the commission of the theft and had fled the scene.

The Monticello Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department responded to the call, along with an officer from the Department of Fish and Wildlife. A short time later all four suspects were in custody.

Gerson David Alvarez, 20, also known as Alvares Herson, and Igrid Ovinonaz, 28, both of Houston, Texas, were apprehended in their getaway vehicle at Cumberland Green on KY 90 east of Monticello.

Jua Futierres, 23, of Houston, Texas, was apprehended walking away from the area of Cumberland Green. Alan Reyes, 23, of Houston, Texas, was apprehended hiding in an overgrown field near the intersection of the KY 90 Bypass and North Main Street.

All four were charged with robbery second degree and lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center. All four are believed to be Mexican citizens and most recently from the Houston, Texas area.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department reported that approximately $2,322.64 in merchandise was taken from the store.

The investigation is continuing.
