Miller is charged in sealed indictment

A fifth person has been arrested in connection with the murder of an elderly Wayne County man and the assault of his son. Elizabeth Faye Miller, 33, of Monticello, was arrested Wednesday, July 21 on a sealed grand jury indictment.

Miller was charged with complicity to robbery first degree. According to the indictment, which had been returned June 28 by a local grand jury, Miller allegedly attempted to “aid George M. Maupin and/or Richard Taylor, Jr., in planning or committing the offense of robbery in the first degree.”

The charge stems from a robbery and homicide that occurred at the rural residence of William Wells, Sr. The elderly man was found dead in his home by a relative on May 16. Officials said he died of blunt force trauma. His son, William Wells, Jr., was found at the residence suffering from multiple injuries.
