Members of the Telecom-munications Board reviewed the application for an RUS loan, during a meeting held Wednes-day, July 21. The application has essentially been completed and should be submitted to RUS officials by August 1.
The board is applying for $22.6 million for a fiber to the home system. Telecommuni-cations Board Chairman Wade Upchurch stated that the project probably will not cost that much, but that by applying for this amount, the board is certain that it will have the funds necessary for this upgrade.
He also pointed out that only the money needed for the project will actually be borrowed. The fiber to the home project will bring additional services to customers of the local cable system, including high speed internet.
“This will put us on the cutting edge of technology,” stated Upchurch. “This will give us an infrastructure advantage over any community in Kentucky.”
