Couple arrested for identity theft
Melodie Phelps
News Editor

Several months of traveling, staying in hotels and vacationing on houseboats ended for James A. Hester and Emmilea Hale Saturday, when the couple was arrested for identity theft and theft by deception.

Hester and Hale were arrested at Beaver Creek Resort, after officials at the marina discovered they had charged thousands of dollars to a credit card in another individual’s name.

Sharkley Stonewall, with the Department of Fish and Wildlife, said Hester and Hale have been on a lengthy crime spree, extending through at least three states. The couple have outstanding warrants in Ohio and Indiana. Stonewall indicated that the couple has traveled extensively, using stolen credit card information and has used as many as eight or 10 different credit cards to secure houseboat rentals and hotel stays.

Stonewall said that Hester and Hale were staying on a houseboat at Beaver Creek, when they were taken into custody. He was charged with theft by deception and theft of identity. She was charged with theft of identity and complicity to theft by deception.

Both Hester and Hale have been lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center, and Stonewall said the investigation is continuing.
