State Board of Education receives Guffey’s resignation

County Court Clerk Carol Jones has been notified by the State Board of Education of the resignation of Wayne County Board of Education member Peggy Guffey.

Guffey, who represents Division Four on the county school board, tendered a copy of her resignation to The Wayne County Outlook on Friday, July 16. Guffey sited a change of residence as her reason for resigning from the board.

Jones indicated that someone will be appointed to fill Guffey’s vacant seat, until local voters select someone to complete Guffey’s term. The race will appear on the November 2 ballot.

Candidates for non-partisan elections like Monticello City Council and local school boards have until Tuesday, August 10 at 4 p.m. to file for office.
