Arraignments, pre-trial conferences held in Wells’ murder case
Melodie Phelps
News Editor

Four of the five suspects charged in connection with the robbery of William Wells, Sr. appeared before Circuit Judge Vernon Miniard, Jr. on Tuesday, August 3 as a series of arraignments and pre-trial conferences were held throughout the day.

Beth Miller, the last person who was arrested in connection with the death of Wells, Sr. and the assault of his son William Wells, Jr., appeared with attorney Lee Whittenburg in the morning, as she was arraigned on the charge of complicity to robbery in the first degree. Miller waived formal arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty. A pre-trial conference was set for September 21 for Miller.

Miller appeared before Miniard again Tuesday afternoon accompanied by attorney Tom Carroll, who entered a motion for bond reduction. Miller is being held on a $150,000 cash only bond. She was arrested Wednesday, July 21 after a local grand jury returned a sealed indictment against her.

Carroll told the court that Miller would live in her parents’ home if bond was reduced and could be posted.
