6-16-10 — Enjoy the beautiful flowers and greenery in several local gardens
now and savor the patterns and colors of unique quilts in a few
weeks. These are both experiences that the Contented Heart Quilt
Guild is offering as part of two very special events.
The first is the 2010 Garden Tour which is slated for Saturday, June
12. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., three unique gardens will be open to the
public as part of the tour.
This marks the first time the tour has been sponsored by the
quilting group. Previously the local Garden Club sponsored a tour,
but the group has disbanded and the Quilt Guild decided to host the
event as a way to help raise funds for their upcoming Labor Day
weekend show.
There will be no charge to attend the garden tour, but donations
will be accepted throughout the day. All money donated will help fund
more than $3,000 in prizes that will be awarded as part of the Quilt
Show of the Little Mountains, according to Polly Sartin, whose garden
is among those included on the tour.
If you would like to participate in the tour, you can view any of
the gardens or all three of them. Ronald and Polly Sartin's butterfly
garden, which includes dahlias, day lilies, butterfly bushes, and
perennials, is located at 320 Michigan Avenue.
The next garden on the tour is near the Sartins. Donald Jenkins'
garden of lilies is at 91 Jenkins Street, which is past the park. The
garden includes a wide variety of lilies and hollyhocks.
Gwenave Bell's oaklawn garden includes wildflowers, annuals,
perennials, two fish ponds and ornamental grasses, just to name a
few. It is located at 75 Gap of the Ridge just off KY 90.
Hostesses will be at all three locations throughout the day to
provide information to visitors. There will be signs directing
visitors to each garden. A brochure is available that provides
specific driving directions to each location. Brochures can be picked
up at The Quilt Shoppe in downtown Monticello.
Anyone who would like more information can call the Shoppe at (606)
340-0015.
