Wayne man injured in stabbing in Pulaski Co.

Wayne County Outlook

Monticello — A Wayne County man was one of two men injured shortly before midnight on New Year's Eve during an altercation that occurred at the VFW in Pulaski County.

Pulaski County Sheriff Todd Wood said that Joshua Neal, 24, of Monticello, and James Carrender, 42, of Somerset were taken by private vehicle to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, after both apparently sustained knife wounds outside the VFW post.

A third individual, Bob Thornton, of Pulaski County, was involved in the altercation and is believed to be the assailant.

Thornton was not injured during the incident.

Wood said an altercation between two men began inside the facility on Thursday night.

The two were asked to leave, but they continued their fight in the parking lot. That's when a knife was pulled.

"There are differing statements from witnesses on what occurred outside," said Wood.

Wood said it appears that one of the men who was injured was trying to break up the fight between Thornton and the other individual.

Sgt. Jon Williams and Detective Scott Trotter of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department are investigating the case.

"They are interviewing additional witnesses," Wood said.

Wood said the case could be presented to the Pulaski County Grand Jury when the investigation is completed.

Wood said that Neal and Carrender underwent surgery to treat their knife wounds.
