Record year for March of Dimes

Monticello — March of Dimes WalkAmerica celebrated another record year in Wayne

County. The annual event, which was held Saturday, October 13 at Memorial

Park, raised $35,650‹far exceeding the goal set by the local WalkAmerica

committee this year.

It was the result of a lot of hard work by committee members and

volunteers who stepped up to the plate, when this year's goal of $29,000 was

set for the campaign. More than 100 local businesses and groups donated or

participated in WalkAmerica this year.

In addition to setting a record for the amount of money raised, Michelle

Wesley, Community Director with March of Dimes, also noted that the goal has

never been exceeded by as sizeable a margin as it was this year.

"All the WalkAmerica teams and volunteers have done a phenomenal job,"

said Wesley.

The Top Team for 2007 was Walker Elementary School's WalkMania. Students

and teachers raised $6,000.14, which was their largest total ever.

The Top New Team in 2007 was Bell Elementary's WalkMania. Their first

year total was $3,343.52.
