Beshear says he will "make this state a better place to live" Melodie Phelps, News Editor
Wayne County Outlook
Monticello — Democratic gubernatorial candidate Steve Beshear told a large crowd of
local supporters that he will "make this state a better place to live" when
he is elected to lead Kentucky government. Beshear and his running mate, Dr.
Daniel Mongiardo, visited Wayne County on Wednesday, October 24, as the
local democratic organization hosted a rally at Memorial Park.
Beshear told the crowd he was pleased with the turnout for the event.
"I think that shows how important you think this election is," said
Beshear.
Beshear pledged that he and Mongiardo would make Kentucky a better place
to live. He addressed issues that the Fletcher campaign has brought up
regarding values of the democratic candidates.
"We want to talk about values...We want people to know what we stand
for," said Beshear.
Beshear said his father was a minister and the local undertaker. He was
one of five children.
"Our parents instilled in us a strong belief in God...a belief that we
needed to be accountable," said Beshear.
"We are not going to let the other side argue that you can't be a person
of faith and a democrat at the same time," Beshear said as the crowd
applauded.
Beshear said there are 81,000 children in this state who do not have any
health coverage.
"When Dan and I get to Frankfort we are going to make sure all the
children in this state have the health care they need to grow up and become
healthy adults," said Beshear.
Beshear pledged that he and Mongiardo would also make sure no elderly
Kentuckians have to make the choice between filling a prescription or buying
food.
"Those are the kind of moral values we democrats stand for," he said.
Beshear addressed the lead that many state polls have shown he has over
Fletcher.
"You've seen all these polls...I like them. They really look good," said
Beshear. "No matter what people have said in these polls, if they don't vote
they don't count."
He urged everyone to get out the word and make sure that everyone goes
to the polls on November 6.
