1-18-12 — Wayne County Judge-Executive Greg Rankin recently released
information about a program that is starting on Monday night January
23 and will continue through the month of February.
Big Monday Hoops will give local people the opportunity to play pick-
up basketball on Monday nights at the Aspire Center.
The gym will be open from 6:15 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. for students in
grades 7-12. Release forms and parent signatures for minors will be
available on Monday evenings, while adult open play will also be
available from 7:15-8:45 p.m. weekly.
"We want to offer our citizens a safe place to recreate and this
program is one of several that we'll continue to support that offers
that. The last few years we have had excellent response, with good
participation, so hopefully that will be the case again. We did
change days this year to hopefully not compete with as many school
functions," said Rankin.
All participants will be required to sign a waiver, sign-in and
agree to a very basic set of rules.
"Basketball is very popular and gym space is always a concern, so we
like being able to offer this free of charge. We are also very
excited about the new Aspire Basketball League that will allow our
younger kids the chance to play in a local league. Any recreational
opportunity we can support through our winter months is a plus," said
Rankin.
