5-1-13 — The Monticello-Wayne County Event Committee recently announced that the 3rd Thursday Summer Concert Series, presented by South Kentucky RECC, is back for a second season, after a very successful debut in 2012.
Rapid Transit will kick off the series on May 16 followed by Borrowed Blue on June 20, Jim Dishman on July 18 and the Klassyc Tymes Band wrapping up the events on August 15.
"We are very happy to have another great concert series with four bands that were all involved with a very enjoyable and successful 2012. Rapid Transit, Borrowed Blue, Jim Dishman and Klassyc Tymes all have great local followings and strong local ties, so it's a great partnership for this summer," said Event Committee Chair Shannon Hutchinson.
A couple of new wrinkles have been added to the series as a Car Show and Shine will be available each concert night beginning at 7 p.m., plus a just added special gospel and bluegrass Sunday night event on June 23 featuring local groups Sage Knoll and the Fall Creek Boys.
"We wanted to add a Car Show and Shine to make our concerts even more of a fun for the whole family event and we welcome anyone to
participate, plus we've added a Sunday night gospel/bluegrass show.
That is a request we had last year and this is all possible with great support from the local ministerial association. Both Sage Knoll and the Fall Creek Boys are very talented musicians, so our Sunday night should be big fun as well," said Hutchinson.
The events are all sponsored by local businesses as Vision Care, First Southern National Bank, Wayne County Hospital, Citizens National Bank, WKYM and Smith Chiropractic PSC are all on board for 2013.
"Our sponsors have been tremendous and we also thank our media partners as well for aiding in promoting this series. We have different genres of music each month, so hopefully we'll have something for everyone in the family," said Hutchinson.
Each Thursday night show opens with a Car Show at 7 p.m., while the
concert starts at 8 p.m. The Sunday evening event will start at 7
pm, with two bands performing. The series opens Thursday May 16 with Rapid Transit.
"Rapid Transit opened our series in 2012, so they were a natural to open the 2013 schedule. Last year the square was packed, so our challenge is to try and fill it up and then some this year," said Hutchinson.
