11-14-12 — State Representative Sara Beth Gregory has announced that she will seek the republican nomination to serve as State Senator for the 16th Senatorial District, which is now vacant following Senator David Williams' appointment as circuit judge.
Gregory is currently the State Representative for the 52nd House District, which includes McCreary, Wayne and a portion of Pulaski County. She is completing her first term as state representa-tive, where she serves as vice-chair of the House Judiciary Committee and as a member of the Agriculture and Banking and Insurance Committees.
Gregory was re-elected without opposition on November 6 after winning the republican primary in May by a large margin.
"I want to thank the people of McCreary, Wayne, and Pulaski counties for their support and for the privilege of serving them in Frankfort," Gre-gory said. "I am seeking the nomination for state senate because I want to continue working to bring new jobs and development to this region, to fight the problem of drug abuse, and to protect the values of the people who live here. I have spoken with people throughout the 16th District and received overwhelming encouragement to pursue this opportunity to serve in a new arena."
The 16th Senatorial District includes Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Monroe, Wayne, and Whitley County.
Gregory graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor of arts in political science. She obtained her law degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law and began her legal career as a
law clerk for the Hon. Eugene E. Siler, Jr. of the United States
Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She currently works as an attorney in Monticello.
Gregory is a member of the First Baptist Church of Monticello and serves on the Wayne County Fair Board and full board of the Center for Rural Develop-ment. She is also a member of the Republican Party of Kentucky Executive Committee.
Clinton County attorney David M. Cross has also announced that he will seek the republican nomination for the vacancy.
