9-12-12 — Wayne County Girls Volleyball had a memorable experience competing in the Thoroughbred Smash in Lexington August 31-September 1.
Wayne County defeated Ashland and Perry County Central both 2-0 Friday, August 31 to win their pool. Since the local team won their pool, they got to play in the prestigious Gold Division of the tournament. They lost 1-2 to Woodford Co., 0-2 to Nelson County, and beat Pikeville 2-0. So for the weekend they ended up 3-2.
"Our goal was to win our pool and get into the Gold Division, which includes the best teams in the tournament. Regardless of who we played we wanted to play the best teams and compete to the best of our abilities and we did just that. We came up short against Woodford and Nelson but we competed and we got better," said Wayne County Coach Sandra Baker.
