10-31-12 —    The Wayne County Middle School Golf team had a very strong showing  at 2012 Middle School State Golf Tournament.  The Cardinals posted a  team score of 325 October 20 at the Long Run golf course in  Louisville Kentucky.

Wayne County stood atop the leader board alongside Jackson County at  the conclusion of play.  However, the cards were forced to take the  second place finish.  Play was not completed in time to conduct a  playoff to determine the winner.

Golf teams are typically comprised of five players, with the four  lowest scores counting towards the team's total score.  Wayne County  had only four players participating in the tournament. The fact that  play was not completed in time to conduct a team playoff worked  against the Cardinals. The scorecard playoff regulations stipulated

the tie be broken by comparing each team's 5th man score. Due to the  fact that Wayne County had only four players, Jackson County was  automatically awarded the Championship trophy.

"It's unfortunate that we lost in that manner, but I couldn't be

more proud of the way our team played" said Wayne County Golf Coach  Shane Blevins.
