Wayne County Middle wins at Metcalfe County 32-0, improves to 2-0

9-8-10 —    The Wayne County Middle School football team returned to action last Thursday night at Hornet Field, to fare home standing Metcalfe County. The Cards entered with a 1-0 mark, coming off a 30-8 win at Garrard County, in their season opener.

Metcalfe County was playing their opener, as two previous games were canceled due to heat index.

Wayne County scored on their first four offensive possessions built a 24-0 halftime advantage, en route to a 32-0 win.

Logan Gardner rushed 6 times for 125 yards and scored on touchdown runs of 48 and 30 yards plus added a 32 yard scoring strike to wide receiver Drew Perkins.

Kadamian Branham rushed a game high 10 times for 53 yards with a 3 yard touchdown run, as four different Cards scored in the win.

Branham led the defensive unit with 5 tackles and 3 sacks, while nose guard Jared Philpot totaled 5 tackles, 2 sacks with a tackle for loss. Rodney Rednour and Kody Vaughn posted 5 total stops each, as Metcalfe County was held to just 4 first downs.

"Our kids gave a solid team effort, which is something we should be able to build on. Several different guys made big plays on defense and offensively I thought our balance was pretty decent. Everybody on the roster played, so this was a nice road win," said Cards head coach Shannon Hutchinson.

Wayne County Used 29 plays to total 213 yards of offense. Eight different players carried the ball in the win, as the Cards improved to 2-0, on the young season. "It was good to get back on the field after missing last week's game with Knox County, due to the heavy rains. We know our games on Saturday will be another tough challenge," said Hutchinson.

Up next for the squad was a Saturday match up with Lexington Catholic, in the Republic Bank Bluegrass Bowl.
